Greetings dear friends of NAPPO,
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank all the attendees who actively participated in the 47th Annual NAPPO Meeting, organized by the NAPPO Secretariat and hosted by the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of the United States.
I want to extend special thanks to Ethan Holmes, Senior Policy Advisor at the United States Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), for his welcoming message, and to Jessica Mahalingappa, Associate Deputy Director of International Phytosanitary Management and Standards Programs at Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), for her opening remarks as Chair of the NAPPO Executive Committee. I also express gratitude to our keynote speaker, Dr. Juan Villanueva, Director General of the School of Graduate Studies (COLPOS, as per its Spanish acronym), and to Mr. Arop Deng, representing the IPPC Secretariat, for his video welcoming message.
During the meeting, the Secretariat recognized John Greifer with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution and lifelong dedication to plant health protection and preservation throughout North America and worldwide through his contributions to the IPPC. Hugo Arredondo, Bob Baca, and Vessela Mavrodieva were also recognized for their exceptional contributions and collaboration as expert group leaders and members.
Expert groups provided updates on active NAPPO projects. Immediately following government reports from member countries, were reports from industry sectors in Mexico, Canada, and the United States. I thank the members of our Industry Advisory Group for their valuable contributions and participation.
The meeting also included knowledge topics and presentations by guest experts on relevant plant health topics. I am grateful to all speakers for their willingness to share their knowledge with us.
The symposium covered two topics: 1) methyl bromide reduction through a risk-based approach which emphasized alternatives to this fumigant, including economic and management information, and 2) the implementation of standards and documents developed by NAPPO. Both symposium topics were well attended and provided relevant information to stakeholders.
In this report, you will find participants' PowerPoint presentations and recordings from those who could not attend in person but wanted to contribute their knowledge and experience. I hope these materials will be useful to both participants and those who wish to benefit from the information shared. I want to thank all those who contributed presentations to the annual meeting.
In closing, I thank those who have already completed the post-meeting survey and invite others to take a few minutes to respond. Your feedback is essential and will help us plan next year's meeting, which will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Once again, I sincerely thank you for your participation and contribution to making this meeting a success.
